ICM & Abstract Street Photography Workshops

My Philosophy

There is no such thing as an average human being, we are all unique individuals with a unique way of looking at the world and the way we interpret what we see through our cameras is, and must be, unique to us alone. That means, whether I have 2 or 8 people on a workshop, my intention is to encourage individuality to allow each person to ultimately create work that pleases them and not because it's what they believe others might like or what Instagram expects! No! That's a one way trip to creative misery and I won't be party to it.

Whether you attend a one day or two/three/four day workshop, the pace is relaxed and the feeling is chilled. We will spend time talking about what moves us, observing the comings and goings on the street and encouraging each other as well as talking about camera settings and shooting. This is an organic process that starts and ends with who you are - what you can do with a camera comes second to that. My workshop is intended to introduce you to the 'how' and help you to see the infinite possibilities of this wonderfully weird genre of artistic photography.

Who Is The Workshop For & What Do You Need?

You do not have to be an experienced photographer. Beginners are welcome. If you're a regular ICMer, this workshop probably isn't for you as I'll be covering a lot of ground from scratch. You will need an open mind and a sense of humour. People will probably stare as you jiggle your camera around and you will be doing things you've never done as a 'focused' photographer, but relax and roll with it - it's a lot of fun! You will be astonished and delighted at what you achieve in your first ever ICM outing, I know I was!

As for kit, there are only two basic requirements:

1) A DSLR or mirrorless camera which allows you to manually adjust ISO, shutter speed and aperture. I can show you how this works if you're not used to shooting in manual mode, so please don't worry. I currently shoot with a 50mm lens but an 18-55mm kit lens is ideal. Please don't bring huge cameras and lenses. We are on the street and the point is to be as inconspicious as possible so we don't disturb the flow of what's going on around us.

2) An ND (neutral density) filter (screw in type for ease and to aid inconspicuousness) to allow you to shoot in bright light at low shutter speeds. I shoot all my images with 6 stop ND filter from Gobe. You really don't need an expensive one for ICM.

Below you will find the dates of my planned workshops for 2020. I am also available for private groups in your chosen location. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions about workshops, whether planned or private.

Planned Group Workshops are €85 per person for one day and €150 for two days. Minimum number is 5 and maximum is 8 to ensure everyone gets the best from our time together. Private Workshop prices will be subject to group number, length and location.

I'm so looking forward to sharing my love of ICM and Abstract Street Photography with you!
