3 Day Photo Workshop, Neukirchen am Grossvenediger, Austria
3 days means a full 3 awesome days learning and does not include arrival and departure day!

The setting for this fun, informative and relaxing workshop is the beautiful ski resort of Neukirchen am Grossvenediger, with the Wildkogel mountains situated right in the village, the most beautiful and tranquil forest just 5 minutes from your accommodation and the incredible Krimml waterfalls - the highest in Europe - just a 15 minute bus ride away.

What you will learn:

  • What ICM is and what it is not

  • How ICM can be used to make a very ordinary scene shimmer and dance

  • What equipment you need - camera, focal lengths and filters

  • What factors are involved in making a good ICM photo

  • Composition

  • Light

  • Moment

  • The all important directional movements and their effects

  • Camera settings and their effects

  • Observation and looking at colour/black and white in an ICM image. It’s not the same as in a focused shot, not at all

  • Post processing

  • How to laugh at yourself as you dance around with your camera with not a care in the world, knowing you are creating art!

2024 Dates: Monday 17th  - Wednesday 19th June 2024 (please arrive on 16th June)

Price: 550 euros per person.  Bring a friend and both get 25 euros off the price or book before 31st December 2023  and get 10% off the price ! 350 euros is payable on booking, with the remainder due one month before the workshop  begins. Terms & Conditions apply and will be sent to you prior to your booking confirmation.

Participants: Maximum number 6. Minimum number 2.

Aimed at: Complete beginner  ICM artists

You will need:

  • A DSLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with batteries and charger

  • Either a zoom lens of around 18-55mm with a fixed aperture if you have one, but it's not a must and/or around a 35mm prime lens (Full frame equivalent 24-70mm or 50mm) I shoot with the Fujifilm XPro3 or XT4 with 16-55mm 2.8 zoom and the 35mm 1.4 prime.

  • A 6 stop ND filter, I find screw in better and you don't need to buy an expensive one for ICM, mine is Gobe, now Urth. I would advise against buying a variable ND.

  • Memory cards, bring several, you will need them!

  • You will NOT need your tripod!

  • Sturdy walking boots and comfortable clothing

  • Weather protection for both you and your camera - we will shoot come rain or shine and at the waterfalls you will get wet anyway!

  • Laptop or tablet for editing with usually download adaptors and cables

  • A sense of humour and a little patience, Rome wasn't built in a day!

What is included:

  • All tuition including evening sessions for feedback and editing

  • A welcome drink at a local bar the day before the workshop begins and a farewell drink on the afternoon of Day Three

  • Entry to Krimml Waterfalls

What is not included:

  • The cost of your journey to Neukirchen

  • Your accommodation, although I can probably help arrange a good price for you if you book the workshop early enough.

  • Bus/train fares in and around Neukirchen, but this will be free if you book accommodation offering the NationalPark Summer Card.

  • Your meals and drinks

  • Lift pass for our mountain day, but this will be free if you book accommodation offering the NationalPark Summer Card.

  • Insurance for accidents or your gear. You absolutely must have travel insurance which includes helicopter rescue. The simplest of falls can result in injury and although we're going to be in places suitable for all kinds of visitors, they are located in areas an ambulance cannot reach.

Arrival Day:

Arrive any time before evening. We will head to a local bar or restaurant to get to know each other a little and talk about the days ahead.

Day One: In the Forest

ICM is essentially learned here and we will practice the skinny trees movements before moving on to various other movements - all intentional of course!

Day Two: At the Krimml Waterfalls

Moving water is a challenge and where better to learn and practice than the highest waterfalls in Europe. We will walk through the forest up to the top of the three levels, shooting water, trees and scenes from the various viewing platforms as we go. We'll have lunch at the top and make our way back down. The pace of this day is easy but the walk to the top is a little strenuous, so get some walking in before you come.

Day Three: On the Mountain

Today we're heading up high and the cablecar will take us from the centre of the village to the mountain station at 2100m. We will learn and practice shooting mountain scenes, discovering which movements work best to show this beautiful landscape at its best. Lunch in a mountain restaurant and back down in plenty of time to grab a drink at my favourite bar for a Q&A and a round up of the three days together. In the evening we will head to a nearby restaurant for more ICM related chat and a farewell meal.

Note: Days Two and Three may be swapped around depending on the weather.

Depature Day:

Time to say goodbye as you make your way back home to continue your ICM journey.

Incredibly good, Alex, you overdelivered!
